Separate FEHD charges from the funeral service quotation. Niches, temporary ashes storage and certificates are different items and are not automatically needed by every family.
Identify the official item and charging period
Circle the arrangements already confirmed and keep undecided niche or storage choices separate. Check the formal item name, whether payment is one-off, monthly or for renewal, who will pay, and how receipts will be kept. Record when you checked the official schedule.
Published government fees
The following are FEHD items, not Tim Fat Funeral service prices. The figures below are reference amounts; check the latest official schedule before payment. A listed niche fee does not establish allocation or when payment is due.

| Child cremation | One cremation. | HK$650 |

A niche is not a compulsory part of cremation
Cremation, temporary storage and niche placement serve different purposes. Settle confirmed arrangements while discussing longer-term placement separately. FEHD provides a free storage period; ask when monthly charges begin and follow the collection notice. Match the cremation payment to the confirmed service. Consider niche charges only when pursuing an application and following the allocation instructions. Obtain certificates according to actual need rather than treating every document as a required purchase.
Three receipt checks
The item, date and amount should match the arrangement. Ask FEHD about anything unclear. Initial 20-year niche use and a later 10-year renewal refer to different periods, not necessarily two charges paid together at application. Check that the service name agrees with the official schedule, that the amount corresponds to a one-off, monthly or renewal item, and that the deceased's or applicant's details need no correction.
A family example and printable record
Mr Ho has confirmed cremation while his sisters are still considering ashes placement. He records the confirmed official fee without treating a niche as immediately payable. Keep a checklist of the official-page check date, deceased's name, confirmed items, charging department and receipt details, charging period, pending storage or niche decisions, and the custodian of original receipts. Keep these apart from the service quotation. Eligibility for welfare assistance is a separate enquiry.
Frequently asked questions
Are adult cremation and niche charges one payment?
No. They are separate official items. A niche also requires application and allocation.
Does monthly ashes storage begin on the cremation date?
The schedule describes charges after the first two months. Confirm actual collection and storage arrangements with FEHD.
Why are there two standard-niche amounts?
They relate to the initial 20-year period and a later 10-year renewal, rather than necessarily being payable together.
Is the government total the complete funeral price?
No. It excludes the family's chosen service arrangements. Keep official receipts and case-specific service quotations separate.
