Hong Kong Funeral Parlours: A Guide for Families

Key Points

According to figures published by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) on 21 October 2026, Hong Kong has seven licensed funeral parlours with 135 halls in total. One is on Hong Kong Island (Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point), five are in Kowloon (Kowloon Funeral Parlour in Tai Kok Tsui; Universal, International and Global funeral parlours in Hung Hom; and Diamond Hill Funeral Parlour), and one is in the New Territories (Po Fook Memorial Hall in Tai Wai). International, Global and Diamond Hill are run by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs). Global Funeral Parlour is also the only parlour operated under a government tender, and it is required to provide basic funeral services. When choosing a parlour, consider where most relatives and friends live, the expected number of guests, any religious rites, transport and budget. "Grand Peace Funeral Parlour" (福澤殯儀館), which some people still mention, was the name used by Global Funeral Parlour from 2012 to 2017. It no longer operates under that name.

Phone numbers follow the FEHD list of licensed funeral parlours. Some parlours also have separate booking or enquiry lines. Check each parlour's page before calling.

Number and Size of Halls

The FEHD groups funeral halls into three sizes: large, medium and small. Large halls suit funerals with many guests or public memorial services. Small halls, which some parlours call "rest rooms" or "chapels", suit smaller, simpler services.

Having more halls does not guarantee availability. Demand is higher at weekends and around festivals, so check available dates with the parlour or your funeral company. Hall capacity varies from parlour to parlour. Tell the staff how many guests you expect and ask which hall is suitable.

If some guests are elderly or have limited mobility, distance is not the only factor. Check whether the parlour is on a hillside, when the last shuttle bus leaves, and whether there are slopes or stairs between the drop-off point and the hall.

Parlour Profiles

Hong Kong Funeral Home (North Point)

The only licensed funeral parlour on Hong Kong Island, located on King's Road in North Point. It has 20 halls, four of them large. It suits families whose guests mainly live on Hong Kong Island and who prefer not to cross the harbour. The King's Road entrance is for brief pick-up and drop-off only, so check parking arrangements before driving.

Kowloon Funeral Parlour (Tai Kok Tsui)

Located on Maple Street in Tai Kok Tsui, with 15 halls. It is close to several MTR stations and convenient for guests in West Kowloon. Its official website publishes a schedule of services by hall, so guests can check the date of a wake.

Universal Funeral Parlour (Hung Hom)

It has the most halls of the seven parlours, 25 in total, including five large halls. It suits large funerals, public memorial services or families that need several services at the same time. Every hall and small chapel has a family rest room.

International Funeral Parlour (Hung Hom)

Run by TWGHs, it has 19 halls, most of them small (14). It suits funerals with a moderate or small number of guests. Service halls are open 24 hours a day, all year round, as needed.

Global Funeral Parlour (Hung Hom)

Formerly the Hung Hom Public Funeral Parlour, it is now the only funeral parlour in Hong Kong operated under a government tender. TWGHs has run it since 2018 and won another five-year operating contract in 2024. It has 21 halls and must provide basic funeral services to eligible people, making it suitable for families on a limited budget.

Diamond Hill Funeral Parlour (Diamond Hill)

Run by TWGHs, it has 11 halls, making it the smallest of the seven. A free shuttle bus runs to the MTR, with the last evening departure from the parlour at about 10:30 pm. It suits guests living in East Kowloon.

Po Fook Memorial Hall (Tai Wai)

The only licensed funeral parlour in the New Territories, with 24 halls. Eight of them are large, the most of any parlour. Each hall has a family rest room, and a shuttle bus runs to and from Tai Wai MTR station. It suits guests in the East New Territories and funerals that need a larger hall.

What Happened to Grand Peace Funeral Parlour?

Many online sources and older relatives still mention "Grand Peace Funeral Parlour" (福澤殯儀館). It was located at 6 Cheong Hang Road, Hung Hom, formerly the Hung Hom Public Funeral Parlour, and operated under that name from April 2012 to March 2017. When the contract ended, the premises closed for repairs. TWGHs later won the operating contract and reopened the parlour as Global Funeral Parlour in 2019.
