Start with how many people will attend at the same time, then ask about available rooms, rental slots and inclusions. The three examples below illustrate enquiries, not a ranking.
Estimate peak attendance, not total invitations
The number of people notified is not the number inside the hall at once. Estimate the busiest wake period and attendance before departure. Distinguish mourning rooms, smaller halls and larger halls; check wheelchair, waiting and circulation space, then ask what is available on the required date.
Three published venue examples
These approximate capacities are based on published Tung Wah Group of Hospitals information. They do not establish current vacancies or guarantee seating. A reference to 24-hour services does not mean that every room can be rented for any chosen hours.
| Venue | Capacity examples | Time-slot enquiry | Rental details to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Funeral Parlour, 8 Cheong Hang Road, Hung Hom | 孝思堂 about 150; 慈德堂 about 60; some mourning rooms about 20–40. | Confirm the selected room's start and finish despite availability of services around the clock when required. | Room, dates, equipment and extension conditions. |
| Diamond Hill Funeral Parlour, 181 Po Kong Village Road | 永德堂 about 120; some mourning rooms about 20–50. | Verify the actual rental period even where 24-hour use may be arranged as needed. | Room type, included equipment and extension terms. |
| Global Funeral Parlour, 6 Cheong Hang Road, Hung Hom | 寧宇堂 about 80; 寰慧堂 about 180; some mourning rooms about 40–60. | Ask room by room about available slots. | Room, date, equipment and extension arrangements. |
Chinese room names are included to help you identify the exact room with the operator. Confirm current facilities, availability and rent by telephone or a visit. No rental amount is promised here.
Separate room, time and equipment
Rooms with similar capacities may have different quotations. Ask what dates and hours the rent covers, then clarify equipment, overtime and clearing arrangements. Record the room number, arrival and departure boundaries, seating and audiovisual inclusions, written quote, cancellation and rescheduling terms. Other funeral-service charges are separate.
Capacity is only a starting point
An advertised capacity of about 80 does not guarantee 80 seats or comfort for 80 simultaneous visitors. Ask about seating, standing space, passageways, lifts, wheelchair positions and rest space. Confirm uncertain layouts in person or by telephone. Plan flower positions separately so they do not obstruct access.
A family example and printable enquiry sheet
Ms Ho expects 70 visitors at the evening peak and her mother uses a wheelchair. She uses published capacities to shortlist rooms, then checks that evening's availability and lift access. She does not interpret 24-hour service as unrestricted booking times. Record the parlour and room number, dates, peak attendance, wheelchair needs, entry/exit/extension times, equipment included, cancellation terms, named staff member and enquiry date. Travel around Hung Hom is covered separately.
Frequently asked questions
Does a capacity of 80 mean 80 seats?
Not necessarily. Check the room's seating, standing and access arrangements.
Can a 24-hour service be booked for any hours?
Do not assume so. Service availability and room bookings differ.
Can we choose using capacity alone?
No. Consider peak attendance, dates, lifts and the actual layout.
What should a rental comparison include?
Room, date, hours, equipment, extensions and change conditions, separate from the wider funeral service.
