Quick answer: how to use this guide

This guide covers burial-date references from December 2026 through December 2027 and the practical questions families arranging a funeral in Hong Kong need to consider. An almanac entry favourable for burial does not automatically cover encoffining, moving a coffin, cremation or the circumstances of every family member. Identify the particular ceremony before comparing dates.

The supplied research packet classifies four December 2026 dates and 50 dates in 2027 as primary candidates, with 55 additional alternatives in 2027. These labels describe that packet’s selection method. They are not a prediction of outcomes, an indication of available appointments or a personalised recommendation from Tim Fat Funeral. Almanac and practitioner review remain outstanding; this is a review draft.

Begin with the required documents and circumstances of the deceased, ask about funeral hall and cremation or burial availability, and then coordinate religious preferences and family travel. A yearly date table cannot determine the whole funeral schedule.

Funeral, encoffining, coffin transfer, cremation and burial

A funeral is an overall farewell arrangement and may include a viewing, encoffining ceremony, service, pallbearing and transport. Encoffining concerns placing the deceased in a coffin. Coffin transfer concerns moving the coffin. Burial is a separate act, interpreted within the terminology of the particular almanac. These events may occur on one day or on different days; they do not share identical almanac classifications merely because they are close together.

Ground-breaking concerns work at a burial site. Traditional terms for opening or relocating an existing burial also require context; they should not be treated as a blanket description of every exhumation procedure. Collecting ashes, placing them in a columbarium and scattering ashes involve separate decisions and procedures. Tell the funeral arranger exactly which event you want to schedule.

The principal input to these tables is a list favourable for burial. Some December 2026 records also name encoffining, ground-breaking or opening an existing burial. The 2027 packet does not supply complete daily activity lists. Missing activity information must not be converted into a claim that cremation or every funeral ceremony is also favourable.

Sources, selection method and limitations

The packet treats Azure Dragon, Bright Hall, Golden Coffer, Heavenly Virtue, Jade Hall and Life Governor as the six favourable day deities. It starts from dates listed for burial, then applies its own exclusions for year clash, month clash, the days preceding specified solar terms and the traditional Chong Sang rule. Dates meeting its favourable-deity condition are primary candidates; other dates it considers free of the specified exclusions are alternatives. This is one method, not a universal religious or almanac standard.

The late-2026 base list and the 2027 base list come from different websites cited in the packet. Identical filtering language does not prove that their original activity lists were compiled consistently. Each monthly table identifies its source and review status so that the records can be traced.

Independent checks completed so far cover Gregorian weekdays and lunar-calendar conversion. Original daily almanac entries, complete verification of cyclical-day and deity labels, exclusion logic, exact solar-term boundaries and a named practitioner’s review remain outstanding. No auspicious hours, personal birth-chart analysis or directional assessment have been supplied or invented.

The packet uses solar terms for year and month boundaries. These occur at particular times; a boundary can fall within a civil day. Review must record Hong Kong time, the calendar version, the day-boundary convention and the precise transition time rather than treating midnight as an automatic change.

Reading primary and alternative dates

Choose a month, then read the civil date, lunar date and recorded zodiac clash. Primary and alternative candidates are shown separately. Alternative does not mean unsafe, and primary does not guarantee any outcome. Families should not feel at fault because their practical arrangements do not fit a primary candidate.

Each date appears once and all three language versions use the same data record. Original clash and directional labels are retained, with explanations in English. A traditional unfavourable direction is not a navigation instruction or a prohibition on a funeral vehicle taking a particular road.

Past dates remain part of the historical record; deleting them would change the apparent annual total. Check the period relevant to your arrangements. For auspicious hours or a particular day’s encoffining or coffin-transfer entries, ask the person responsible for the ceremony to review the exact date.

Zodiac clashes are not annual predictions

A daily zodiac clash describes a traditional relationship between a cyclical day and an animal sign. Annual Tai Sui interpretations are a different set of beliefs. Neither should be substituted for the other, and an animal sign alone cannot determine whether someone may attend a farewell. Family members and the officiant can discuss roles such as leading rites or pallbearing.

The packet records conflicting lists for 2027. Some mention Goat, Ox, Dog and Rat; others add different signs. Combining every list into a claim that everybody needs to avoid something would be misleading. Equally, traditional compatible signs do not establish that every funeral activity is suitable. Families who use Tai Sui advice should seek a consistent explanation from the practitioner responsible for their arrangements.

For births near January, February or a solar-term boundary, a birth-year list may not establish the sign or year pillar used in a particular method. Popular animal-year conventions, Lunar New Year and the Start of Spring boundary used in some systems are not identical. Do not apply a single boundary to everyone without first identifying the purpose and tradition.

Some families discuss changing positions or asking another relative to assist with a particular rite. These are not universal religious practices or legal requirements. Statements that someone must stay away or will otherwise suffer misfortune should not be used to pressure grieving relatives. Participation should respect personal wishes, family beliefs and the officiant’s arrangements.

Understanding traditional exclusion terms

Chong Sang is a traditional label used in some date-selection methods. The packet includes a mnemonic connecting solar-term months and heavenly stems, but its interpretation requires review. The name is not evidence that another death will occur and should never be used to judge a family’s completed arrangements.

The Si Li and Si Jue labels concern days preceding specified solar terms; year and month clash labels depend on relationships within the selected calendar method. Complete rules and time-zone handling are needed. A short online summary or a few matching examples cannot validate all annual exclusions.

The seventh lunar month and seasonal observances have different meanings for different families. Some place particular importance on ancestral rites; others follow their religious service and venue arrangements. Ask about the family’s wishes rather than describing an entire month as forbidden or automatically declaring a festival favourable.

Hong Kong arrangements: documents, venues and appointments

First identify the registration and handling procedure applicable to the death. Natural deaths, cases involving the Coroner, repatriation and other circumstances may require different steps. A typical processing time cannot be applied to every case. Consult the Immigration Department’s death-registration information and confirm the documents and next steps with the responsible authority.

Cremation arrangements depend on the relevant Food and Environmental Hygiene Department procedures, permits, documentation and available sessions. This article has no live booking inventory and does not reserve a slot. Booking windows, release times, payment, forms and refund conditions must be checked against the official information and office guidance current when applying.

The funeral hall, religious service, transport and cremation or burial appointment need to work together. An available cremation session does not necessarily mean a suitable hall is available or that relatives can attend. Providing several feasible dates and time ranges may help coordination, but availability still requires confirmation from each venue.

Public holidays, maintenance, severe weather and service changes may affect arrangements. A festival name alone does not prove that every venue is fully booked. Specific closure dates, fees and office hours mentioned in the supplied packet are not repeated here as current promises because they have not been rechecked.

Prepare an enquiry checklist: preferred rites, budget range, venue preferences, cremation or burial plans, relatives’ availability, overseas travel and any appointed religious or date-selection practitioner. Submit identity documents and other sensitive information through an appropriate private channel, not public comments.

When dates or family preferences do not align

List fixed constraints first: document progress, confirmed venue times and essential relatives’ availability. Then identify what can change. Explaining these constraints to the officiant is more useful than simply asking for another “best” day.

Possible discussions include a different ceremony time, an alternative venue or separating events that can appropriately take place on different days. Do not assume viewing, coffin transfer, cremation and burial can be rearranged without consequences. Care of the deceased, storage, transport, venue rules and statutory procedures impose practical constraints; confirm feasibility and costs before changing plans.

When relatives consult different almanacs, compare the activity being selected and the exclusions used. Many disagreements concern method or purpose rather than anyone’s respect for the deceased. A single family contact can consolidate preferences and prevent conflicting instructions being sent to venues.

Religious preferences and families who do not select dates

Date selection is a cultural and family practice, not a requirement shared by every religion. Taoist, Buddhist, Christian and other ceremonies have their own priorities and officiants. Almanac rules should not be presented as universal religious obligations.

Families who do not use date selection can arrange a farewell around documents, venues, relatives and officiants. Respect for the deceased and care for the family do not depend on choosing a date in this article. Where beliefs differ, agree on essential rites and acceptable adjustments before finalising the schedule.

Discussing arrangements with Tim Fat Funeral

Explain whether you are arranging a funeral, cremation, burial, placement of ashes or exhumation, and whether particular religious rites are requested. If using this guide, provide the month and two or three feasible dates, together with the almanac or practitioner your family is consulting.

Tim Fat Funeral can discuss arrangements and venue coordination within its actual service scope. Specific dates, prices, venues and officiants require separate confirmation. This article does not provide live reservations, guaranteed auspicious outcomes or an unverified expert endorsement.

Frequently asked questions

Must a funeral take place on an auspicious date?

No. Families can decide according to their beliefs, the wishes of the deceased and practical arrangements. Almanac selection is not presented here as a legal requirement.

Which dates are listed for December 2026?

The supplied packet lists 2, 3, 17 and 29 December as primary candidates. They still require original-almanac and practitioner review and are not confirmed funeral or cremation appointments.

Are there only 50 possible funeral days in 2027?

No. Fifty is the packet’s primary-candidate count under its chosen method. It is not the number of days on which funerals can take place in Hong Kong and does not prohibit other dates.

Are alternative dates unlucky?

Alternative is a classification within the packet’s method. Other traditions may judge differently. It is not evidence of danger or an inevitable negative outcome.

Is a burial date also a cremation date?

Not automatically. They concern different arrangements. The base list is primarily for burial and has not been independently verified for cremation.

Can encoffining and coffin transfer use the same date?

That depends on the relevant activity entries, ceremony sequence and venue arrangements. A burial entry alone does not answer the question.

Does a zodiac clash prevent attendance?

The table alone does not establish that. Discuss participation with the family and officiant, respecting personal wishes without threatening language.

How is Tai Sui different from a daily zodiac clash?

Tai Sui interpretations concern an annual belief system; a daily clash is a calendar relationship for a particular date. Their purposes and methods differ.

How should a birth before Start of Spring be treated?

First identify whether the question concerns a popular animal sign, the lunar year or a particular year-pillar method. Boundaries differ; a civil birth year alone may not answer it.

Does this guide provide auspicious hours?

No. Reliable daily hour data was not supplied. Ask the practitioner responsible for the ceremony rather than inferring hours from this table.

Are funerals prohibited in the seventh lunar month?

There is no blanket prohibition asserted here. Family traditions, beliefs and service arrangements differ.

Are Qingming or Winter Solstice appointments always unavailable?

No such assumption should be made. Check actual availability with venues and the relevant service; this table has no live inventory.

Does a yearly guide allow booking cremation a year ahead?

No. A yearly reference does not imply that appointments are open for the whole year. Check the official booking window and application conditions when arranging the service.

How long does death registration take?

Timing depends on the case, documentation and application channel. Confirm with the Immigration Department; this article does not promise completion within a fixed number of days.

What if arrangements are urgent and no preferred date fits?

List document, venue and family constraints, then discuss feasible dates, times or procedural adjustments with the family and officiant. Confirm feasibility and costs.

Which almanac is correct when lists differ?

Compare the activity, favourable-day conditions, exclusions, source and edition. The number of dates alone does not establish which method is better.

Are the dates identical in all three languages?

Yes. Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English tables are generated from one dataset, with shared dates, classification and review status.

Does choosing another date show disrespect?

No. Care for the deceased and family, respect for their wishes and completion of the required procedures should not be judged by a date-table match.

Should identity documents and birth times be posted with an enquiry?

If the responsible professional needs such information, clarify its purpose and use a suitable private channel. Do not post identity documents, death documents or detailed family birth information publicly.

Has a practitioner certified this guide?

Not yet. Weekday and lunar-date comparisons have been completed, but original almanac verification and named practitioner review remain outstanding. No certification is claimed.
